JSS Academy of Higher education & Research, Department of Faculty of Life Sciences Introduced an Innovative Career Oriented Program M.Sc. Medical Statistics with CBCS scheme in the year 2015, Which allows for greater flexibility for the students to enhance their learning experience, The MSc in Medical Statistics is a flexible degree programme blending theoretical and applied statistical disciplines ideal for training in medical statistics, This course aims to train students from a variety of academic backgrounds to work as statisticians in various sectors.

Medical Statistics is a fundamental scientific component of health research, deals with application of statistics to medicine and health sciences, including epidemiology, public health, demography and clinical research. The course is designed to cover modern statistical theory and methods providing a good foundation for research in statistics. The emphasis throughout is on applying and adapting it to real-life circumstances. The course provides opportunity to develop skills for data analysis and the individual project work provides field experience and hands-on training in life science.


Objectives

  • To provide rigorous training in statistical techniques and achieve necessary expertise in collaborative research and to facilitate students to become skilled statistics researchers.
  • To enhance their learning experience in theoretical and applied statistical disciplines ideal for training in medical statistics and train students from a variety of academic backgrounds to work as statisticians in various sectors.
  • The expertly designed curriculum enables to use industry-standard software, computer simulations, big data analytics and data mining techniques to find solutions to problems arising in planning and decision-making in healthcare.

At present, there are three faculty members in the division. All faculty members are highly qualified and experienced. They are also associated with other division and deaneries by way of teaching allied subjects. They have been actively involved in helping the students not only in academics but also in guiding them in various aspects. They have Publications in various peer viewed journals and International journals. Their trust areas are Machine learning, Big data analysis, Multivariate analysis, time series analysis and so on.
