Face Off - Hands on Cadaveric and Injectables Workshop - 17-03-2023

With the blessings of lotus feet of His Holiness Jagadaguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, Seeking the blessings of Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, the workshop was started at 9 am. The inaugural program was held in Board Room, 2nd Floor, JSS Medical College. Around 60 delegates were registered for this Hands on Cadaveric and Injectables Workshop. The workshop was started by singing an invocation song on Lord Ganesha.

The welcome speech was delivered by Dr. Kanthraj. G. R, Professor and Head, Department of Dermatology, JSS Medical College. He welcomed Chief Guest Dr. Manjunatha. B, Registrar, JSS AHER, Guest of Honour Dr. Basavana Gowdappa H, Principal, JSS Medical College, Face-off Cadaver & Masterclass trainer Dr. Niamh Corduff, Plastic Surgeon at the Cosmetic Revitalization Clinic, Geelong, Australia, Dr. Rajesh Lalchandini, Consultant Medical Director, GUFIC Biosciences, Dr. B. S. Chandrashekar, Chief Dermatologist and Medical Director, CUTIS Academy, Bengaluru, Dr Vidya C S, Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy, Dr Veeranna, Senior Professor, Department of Dermatology, Dr. Suma. M. N Vice Principal (Pre-Clinical), Dr Praveen Kulkarni Vice Principal (Para-clinical), JSS Medical College.

The inauguration of the workshop was done by lighting the lamp by all the dignitaries. Dr. Manjunatha. B, Registrar, JSS AHER, spoke about the importance of cadaveric and injectable workshop and congratulated the speakers. Dr. B. S. Chandrashekar, CUTIS Academy spoke regarding the newer techniques in dermatology and cosmetics. He inspired the young budding dermatologists to learn, unlearn and relearn. Dr. Basavana Gowdappa H, Principal, JSS Medical College, recalled their experience on the first day of MBBS course and entering dissection hall. He emphasized on the importance of cadaveric workshop and their applied skills. He appreciated the anatomy department for previously conducted orthopedic and spine workshop and the MOU was done with Indian Orthopedic Association.

Dr. Niamh Corduff, Plastic Surgeon spoke about holistic and extensive insight into the essential anatomy of the human face for safe practice into aesthetic medicine. She also talked about comprehensive understanding of various anatomical layers and structures within fresh frozen cadaver facial tissue and how facial injections influence volume loss and aging. She thanked JSS Medical College for providing this opportunity.

Dr.Rajesh Lalchandani, Consultant Medical Director, GUFIC Biosciences highlighted the importance of pertinent clinical facial anatomy with emphasis on safe and reproducible techniques for the use of injectable HA dermal fillers and Botulinum toxin type A fillers in the training programme.

She immensely thanked CUTIS Academy and GUFIC Biosciences for their association in conducting this workshop. She also thanked all the teaching and non-teaching staff, Department of Anatomy.

The tea break was arranged soon after the inaugural function. Then all the resource persons and the delegates started moving to the dissection hall. There were 6 tables allotted with a fresh cadaver in each table. The following faculty members from department of anatomy and dermatology were assigned each table as shown below.

The first session was started at 10:30 AM in the Dissection Hall, Department of Anatomy. The anatomy sessions were organized in such a way that each table had 8 delegates with 2 faculty as instructors. The guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Niamh Corduff on the upper face region. The anatomical layers were shown in a clear manner including marking and surface anatomy.

These include the most clinically relevant FIVE regions (forehead, temple, tear trough, cheek, lips & perioral, jawline). The location of danger zones, nerves, arteries and important muscles and their possible variations were delineated. The synergy between volumisation, use of toxins and fillers were emphasized. The anatomical structures such as supratrochlear nerve & vessels, supraorbital nerve & vessels, auriculotemporal nerve and superficial temporal vessels were identified in the dissection.

This was followed by a break for tea and snacks at 12 PM. The second session was started soon after the break. The guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Niamh Corduff on the mid face region and their related videos were shown to the delegates. The trainees dissected and injected dye filler material on the face and made the delegates to undestand the filler characterstics and tissue interaction. The emphasis was made on avoidance of complications around facial danger zones: Where, What and How to inject? The facial artery with its branches were identified in the dissection. All the muscles around the oral fissure were identified.

This was followed by a lunch break at 1:45 PM. The lunch was arranged in the guest house for all the resource persons and delegates.

The third session was started at 2:30 PM soon after the lunch. The guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Niamh Corduff on the lower face region and their related videos were shown to the delegates. All the delegates got an insight into reading the surface anatomy and real-time application of facial injectables with an emphasis on patient safety and avoidance of structures in critical danger zones of upper, middle, and lower face. Delegates got an opportunity to closely work with the experts in employing advanced injectable techniques in cadavers for each region.

The workshop was completed at 4 pm by summarizing all the important clinical aspects. This was followed by a group photo with all the delegates and resource persons.

FEEDBACK:

It was a wonderful experience for CUTIS academy to work with team JSS Medical College. Methodically thought to all beginners. The practicing injectors could upgrade their skills. It was a true hands-on workshop, good, preserved cadavers, great faculty, case collection was exhaustive. It was a great experience. Cadaver workshop was very well organized. Hats off to the Anatomy department. Thank you GUFIC for the wonderful workshop. It is a good learning and teaching experience.

National CME on Tuberculosis 2023 - 18-03-2023

On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, Department of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College, JSSAHER, Mysuru in association with District Tuberculosis Office, Department Of Health And Family Welfare, Mysuru and SIG in Public Health, JSS MC, organized National CME on Tuberculosis with the theme “YES ! WE CAN END TB- FUNDAMENTALS TO ADVANCES” on 18th March 2023..

Chief guest Dr Mohammed Shiraz Ahamed, DTO, Department of Health and Family welfare, Guests of Honour ,Dr Suma M N, Vice Principal (Pre clinical), Dr.Praveen Kulkarni ,Vice Principal (Para clinical) and Dr.Manthappa M, Vice Principal ( Clinical), JSS Medical Mysuru, Sri S.R.Satishchandra, Administrative Officer, Organizing Chairperson Dr.Sunil Kumar D, Professor and Head of Department Community Medicine, and Organizing Secretary, Dr..Nayanabai Shabhadi, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College inaugurated the event by watering the plant.

Dr.Mohammed Shiraz Ahamed addressed delegates about the burden of tuberculosis in our country and the work of different departments at various levels trying to combat the disease and striving towards the aim “ END-TB by 2025”. He emphasised on the contribution of the Karnataka Government and he as the district TB officer working towards the cause.

Dr.Mohammed Shiraz Ahamed was felicitated for his tremendous work in the field of tuberculosis by the dignitaries at the event.

The Community Medicine Chronicle, monthly E- Newsletter (first issue) of Department of Community Medicine, JSS Medical College was launched in the event. This monthly e-newsletter aims to promote community medicine while keeping readers informed about our department`s activities and achievements.

This issue highlights our department`s accomplishments and milestones from the past year (2022). In the upcoming Chronicle, there will be six sections, including outreach activities, awards and achievements, public health updates, Mind Benders, And Beyond, as well as Press and Media.

Inaugural function was concluded by proposing vote of thanks by Organizing Secretary Dr.Nayanabai Shabhadi.

The topics covered in the national CME on Tuberculosis included, “NTEP- Recent Updates” by Dr.Shazia Anjum, WHO Medical Consultant NTEP Karnataka State Head Quarters, followed by “Role of Medical College in TB Elimination” by Dr.Nirmala A R, Senior specialist State TB Centre, Karnataka, Bengaluru, “Research TB- overview of ongoing and prospective opportunities” by Dr.R.Balaji, Scientist E (Medical), ICMR, NIRT Chennai and “Leverage Real World Evidence for better health decision and better care in TB patients” by Mr.Parthiban S, President of OHDSI India Chapter, VP Innovation and Growth Global Value Web, Netherlands.

More than 1000 delegates registered for the National CME. Overall it was a grand success.

Awareness program on the observance World Head Injury Awareness Day - 20-03-2023

Dept of Clinical Psychology, Neurosurgery & PMRC, JSS Medical College & Hospital, Mysuru, conducted a public awareness program on the observance "World Head Injury Awareness Day" on 20th March 2023.

This programme was attended by patients with head injury and their caregivers and general public.

The program was co-ordinated by Mr. Rithvik S Kashyap, Sudeep PK, Trishala D, Abhiram M Ajaya and Asmita Jain (faculties- Dept of Clinical Psychology).

The Chief guest for this was Shri Jayaprakash, Inspector, Krishnaraja Traffic Police Station, Mysuru.

The gracious presence and insightful words from the dignitaries Dr. Basawanagowdappa, Principal, JSS MC, Dr. Manthappa, Vice Principal (Clinical), Dr. (Col) T S Vasan, Prof. & Head, Neurosurgery made the programme successful.

Dr. Vasan had a deliberation on "Practical Concept in management of Head Injury" and Dr. Manoj K. Pandey, Assoc Prof. & Head, Dept of Clinical Psychology had a talk on "Scope of Clinical psychology Services in Management of Patients with Head Injury."
