His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the 23rd pontiff of Jagadguru Sri Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana Math, known as Sri Suttur Math, inherited the legacy of the 10th Century old Srimath at an early age. He was born in 1916 and ascended the Peetha in 1928 when he was hardly twelve. Ever since his involvement in the helm of affairs of the Math, every step he took forward was towards expanding new areas for service to mankind.

He sacrificed his education career to provide succor to the helpless poor. The burning desire to assuage the educational needs of the hundreds of rural children, he started the first free hostel at Mysuru in 1941. Swamiji had a strong vision of starting educational institutions in rural areas considering the hardship of students coming to cities seeking education. With all these in mind, Jagadguru Sri Shivarthreeshwara (JSS) Mahavidyapeetha was established in 1954. Thus, began the journey of Socio-Economic transformation of the region with the establishment of Schools, Colleges and Sanskrt Patashalas in and around Mysuru. The incredible divine grace coupled with intense and sustained focus resulted in materialization of his great dreams of establishing free schools and hostels, professional colleges, centres of art music and literature. Though the earthly sojourn of His Holiness came to the end in 1986, his indomitable spirit lingers through over 350 Institutions across the globe.
