The Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics successfully conducted a 2-day workshop titled 'Introducing Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis: An Overview' on April 22. This workshop aimed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of systematic reviews and meta-analyses—tools that are integral to evidence-based clinical decision-making and academic research

The event was graced by Dr. Dhakshaini MR, Principal, JSSDC&H, and Dr. Jaishankar HP, Vice Principal, JSSDC&H, who served as the Guests of Honour along with the Head of the Department, Dr. Ashwini T.S. In their addresses, they highlighted the growing importance of research competency among dental professionals and encouraged the participants to embrace such academic opportunities. The workshop was attended by all 14 postgraduate students, from 1st year to 3rd year, along with the faculty members of the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics. Their enthusiastic participation reflected the department’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of research and academic excellence

The keynote address was delivered by the guest speaker, Dr. R. Venkitachalam, a distinguished expert in clinical research and evidence-based dentistry from the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry, Kochi. He began with an engaging introduction to the significance of systematic reviews, followed by a step-by-step explanation of the entire process—from formulating a focused research question and conducting a thorough literature search to data extraction, risk of bias assessment, and meta-analysis

Furthermore, the participants had the opportunity to engage directly with the speaker, clarifying doubts and discussing challenges in conducting high-quality research

The workshop was met with great enthusiasm and set a strong foundation for the upcoming sessions, continuing the department’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and research competence
