National Science Day 2020 celebration by Faculty of Life Sciences & Faculty of Natural Sciences

Thumb

National Science Day is celebrated every year on February 28. National Science Day is celebrated to commemorate discovery of the 'Raman Effect', which led to Indian scientist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman or CV Raman winning the Noble Prize in Physics in 1930. Raman Effect is a phenomenon in spectroscopy discovered by the eminent physicist while working in the laboratory of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata. Sir CV Raman, who received the highest civilian award from his home country, the Bharat Ratna, in 1954, began his experiments for studying the scattering of light; and thus came the Raman Spectroscopy for observing the vibrational, rotational and other low frequency modes in a system. This is commonly used in chemical laboratories and serves as the 'fingerprint' for the substance from which the light is scattered. According to the academy citation, the Nobel Prize in Physics 1930 was awarded to Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman 'for his work on the scattering of light and for the discovery of the effect named after him'. National Science Day is being celebrated every year to widely spread a message about the Importance of science used in the daily life of the people. To display all the activities, efforts and achievements in the field of science for mankind and development. It is celebrated to discuss all the issues and implement new technologies for the development in the field of science. To give an opportunity to the scientific minded citizens in the country. To encourage the people as well as popularize the science and technology.

To commemorate the discovery of the 'Raman Effect', Faculty of Life Sciences and Natural Sciences, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER), Sri Shivarathreshwaranagara, Mysuru is organized National Science Day (NSD 2020) on 28th February 2020 at 10.30 am in Rajendra Auditorium. The theme of the National Science Day 2020 is “WOMEN IN SCIENCE”. Prof. Nirmal Kumar Ganguly, Former Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi is inaugurated the NSD 2020 and Prof. Bejon Kuma Misra, International Consumer Policy Expert and Governing Board Member of Quality Council of India (QCI), New Delhi is the Guest of Honor of the NSD 2020.
