The School of Life Sciences (SLS), was established in the year 2013 with the blessings of His Holiness Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, Chancellor, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, Mysuru. The School stands today as a unique institution in the country known for multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching and research in life sciences

The School of Life Sciences is enunciated in the JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research Strategic Planning Framework.

The School of Life Sciences is enunciated in the JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research Strategic Planning Framework. It has a vision and a mission of achieving national and international distinction while strengthening local relevance. The courses offered covers a wide spectrum of biological, biomedical and environmental sciences with several interdisciplinary research areas. Plethora of job opportunities awaits for the graduates of SLS at various biotechnological, agricultural, pharmaceutical industries and R & D organizations as well as teaching institutions across the country and overseas.

The School of Life Sciences values teaching and research as equal and essential components of continuous professional and scientific development. Pioneering efforts has been made to integrate principles of physical sciences with life sciences in the curriculum design and delivery. The constant aim is to achieve excellence in research & education and strive to integrate research and Life Science Skill Sets with teaching at every possible opportunity in the curriculum. The teaching and research programs sustain a rigorous prospectus that focuses on developing capabilities of students in problem solving, critical & lateral thinking and communication skills that equip the students for employment and personality development.

Th School welcomes students from every corner of the world, who are eager to learn and make knowledge work at elementary level and understand mysteries in Life Sciences.

Dr. K A Raveesha is a popular teacher, committed researcher and an able administrator. He is admired by his students and colleagues for the humane approach. He has obtained his M.Phill in Seed Pathology & Ph.D. in Applied Botany from the University of Mysore and started his career as Lecturer, subsequently  served as Professor and Chairman of Department of Studies in Botany, Chairman Board of Studies in Botany and Microbbiology at  University of Mysore. Currently, he is serving as Professor and Head of Faculty of Life Sciences.

His area of research interest is Isolation and Characterization of  Antimicrobial Agents of Plant Origin. He has successfully guided 20 students for the award of Ph.D. in Microbiology, Applied Botany & Botany and guided many M.Phil students. He has 125 research publications to his credit and has delivered many invited talks, Keynote Address and Plenary Lectures in many National and International Conferences. Some of the important Awards and Recognition to his credit are Special Program Grant from Howard Hughes Medical Institute, USA, VGST - CISEE Award, MICON - International Award - 94, etc.

He has served as Editor of 'mySCIENCE', Associate Editor of 'Current Research Journal of Biological Sciences', Regional Editor of 'Asian Journal of Agricultural Sciences'. He also served as Member of Editorial Board of Archives of Phytopathology and Plant Protection published by Taylor and Francis, UK.

He was responsible for improving the infrastructure of the Department by generating funds from National and International Funding Agencies. He established the Center for Innovative Studies in Herbal Drug Technology with funding from AICTE and VGST for Teaching and Research. He has served as the President of Association of Microbiologist of India (Mysuru Chapter). He is the Founder President of Louis Pasteur Society. He founded the Newsletters 'MICROVISION', 'LEAF' and 'Probe-Microbe' to train PG students for Scientific writing. As trained assessor of NAAC and has assessed and accredited many Academic Staff Colleges, Universities, and Colleges.
