JSS Medical College, Mysore

J.S.S Medical College is located in an area of about 43 acres in 'Sri Shivarathreeshwara Nagara' at Mysore. Mysore city is about 140 km from Bangalore (the capital city of Karnataka). Mysore is a centre for educational institutions. The worldfame city is known for its evergreen, beautiful, eyecatching gardens blended with a salubrious climate. The ideal environment is best suited for the pursuit of education.

The college has altogether a newly constructed building with an area spread across 1,53,000 sq.fts. The fully equipped Pre-clinical and Para-clinical departments along with museums are an added advantage in the building. In addition to this the building has 7 lecture halls, 1 spacious library and 1 large auditorium. The administrative section is located on the ground floor.

Bharath Hospital & Cancer Research Centre, Mysore, is associated with the college and is facilitating the services to the needed and the poor at a larger proportion. Bharath Hospital has a well-planned, nicely built infrastructure in an area of about 9 acres. The unit has a whole body CT Scan, Cobalt radiation unit and all the modern facilities. The students of J.S.S. Medical College are making use of all the advantages that are blended with a sisterly concern.

The College campus also houses 5 blocks of boys hostel including many facilities for the under-graduates, post-graduates and the intern students with the accommodating capacity for nearly 500 members. There is a separate hostel for women with the accommodating capacity for nearly 400 candidates.

  1. Laboratories - The college has well equipped laboratories in basic sciences and pharmacy so that students can understand effectively, what they have learnt in the classrooms. Experiments are designed so that the basic concepts are well understood by the students. Advanced experiments in the laboratories, help the students to get an insight into the new frontiers of pharmacy and allied sciences.
  2. Computer laboratory - The computer laboratory of the college is well equipped with the latest computers (cyrix-II and pentiums) . It has ten computers with CD ROM drives and inkjet printers. The laboratory is exclusively used by the I B.Pharm students for their computer learning. The ratio of computers to students is 1:2. The staff and PG students also use the facilities for their academic work like thesis and projects. Some in-house programmes are also being developed for the benefit of students and staff.
  3. Equipment and instruments - The college machine room has various machines used in the pharmaceutical industries at different stages of production, quality control and packing. Tabletting machines, coating and polishing pans, bottle filling machines, and Q.C.instruments like friability tester, DT and Dissolution test apparatus, U.V.visible spectrophotometer, H.P.L.C (schimadzu) with U.V.-Florescence detector, deep freezer (upto 200C), are the important ones, apart from other modern and sophisticated machines and instruments to update the facilities.

    Important equipments and instruments added recently include colorimeters, single pan balance, pH meters, refractometer, conductivity meter, BOD incubator, tabletting machine tray drier, laminar flow unit, photo fluorimeter, digital flame photometer, nephelometer, digital potentiometer, colony counter, convulsiometer, analgesiometer, histometer, Karl Fischer titration assembly CL-59.

    General equipments purchased for the office use include Nelcoplain paper copier, network electronic typewriter, gestener electronic stencil cutter, modi xerox, P.A.system, water coolers and refrigerators. A computer room with PCs is setup since May 1993, for office purpose.
  4. Research Laboratory - The institution has well equipped research lab with equipments and Instruments like Shimadzu HPLC, Shimadzu UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Electrolab six basket dissolution apparatus with Autosampler, Brooke field's Viscometer, Research centrifuge, Electrolab Tap Density Tester, Shimadzu high sensitivity digital balance, Gel electrophoresis, Rotary tablet press, Colloid mill, Fluidised Bed Drier, Planetary Mixer, computers etc.
  5. Hostel Facilities - The accommodation is as follows :
    • Double room with attached bathroom - 10 rooms - 2 students.
    • Double room without attached bathroom - 27 rooms - 2 students.
    • Triple room - 5x3 = 15 students.

Lab & Other Facilities - The College is having excellent labs with latest equipments to cater the needs of the students. Some of the major equipments are listed under each departments.

Hostels  - The institution is having the inhouse hostel facilities for boys and girls in the campus itself and accommodating 250 students in boys hostel and 240 students in girls hostel. The Hostel provides delicious & nutritional vegetarian food.

Library -  Library being one of the very important organ of educational system and it is the centre of all activities in the campus. Situated in an easily accessible place, it covers 4100 sq. ft. and occupies two sections of the references/ technical and lending section.

Sports - The institution is having the excellent sports facilities and grounds for outdoor and indoor games.
