First Convocation: 29th June 2010

Brief Report

The First convocation of JSS University was held on 29th June 2010 from 10.A.M. at Sri Rajendra Auditorium, JSS Medical Institutions campus. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India was the Chief Guest. His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, Chancellor, JSS University presided over the function. Sri B.N. Betkerur, Pro-Chancellor, Dr. B. Suresh, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Mruthyunjaya P Kulenur, Registrar, Dr (Lt Col) R. Vijaysimha, Registrar (Evaluation) and others were present.

In his convocation address, the Chief Guest Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam highlighted moral leadership and a powerful vision of human betterment as the guidelines to the young graduates in their future professional life. He emphasized the need to put an end to the spurious and counterfeit drugs manufactured by unscrupulous elements and exhorted the graduates to take a pledge to detect and eliminate spurious drugs. He recounted his experiences with four successful achievers, whose efforts in the face of adversity, have made a significant impact on the lives of millions of people and exhorted the young graduates to emulate these committed personalities.

Dr. Abdul Kalam congratulated the authorities for doing away with gowns and hoods reminiscent of our colonial past and lauded the simple yet elegant dress worn by the graduates and the University authorities.

A total of 119 (including 51 in absentia) students of JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore and JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty were awarded post graduate degree in M.Pharmacy in a total of 9 branches. Among these, 10 students who had topped in their respective branches were awarded Gold Medals. Mr. Sumeet Sood (JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty - Pharmaceutics branch) was awarded the coveted Sri Rajendra Mahaswamiji Gold Medal for obtaining overall highest marks.

Earlier, Dr. B. Suresh, Vice Chancellor welcomed the gathering of distinguished guests and presented a brief report of JSS University. The function was a grand success and received wide media coverage.
