The birth defects can be detected well in advance helping in diagnosing the infertile couple. Smile Trainee ProgramSince March 2002, as a trial 'run', 40 children with clefts of lip and palate have been operated by Dr.Satish H.V., M.S., M.Ch., a consultant plastic surgeon. JSS Hospital offers complete rehabilitation facilities for these children. The JSS Dental College has come up with all the necessary advancements to treat the accompanying dental problems. The JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing is geared up to give speech therapy and is conducting research on various aspects of Cleft Lip and Palate. The Department of Paediatrics with its N I C U (Neonatal Intensive Care unit) is active in ensuring quality care. In addition to these many other special treatments are also provided. JSS Dental College, MysoreClinical Departments & Labs Facility All the departments are provided with staff rooms, sterilization room, computer room, reception room, laboratory, store room, seminar room and clinics for both U.G. & P.G. courses separately. Dept. of Oral Medicine & Radiology The department is provided with 27 dental chairs and units, 4 dental I.O., X-ray machines, two O.P.G. X-ray machines, one E.O. X ray machine , two R.V.G. X-ray machines, one automatic radiographic processor & duplicating machine, Soft laser & TENS machines. Dept. of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry The department is provided with 36 dental chairs and units, two dental x-ray machines and one R.V.G. Exclusive child counseling room with toys and games is an added facility here. Separate O.T. facilities are available in the 'conscious sedation' section and for other minor surgical procedures. Two special clinics serve the disabled child patients with utmost care and concern. Dept. of Oral & Maxillo-facial Surgery The department has been provided with 44 dental chairs and units. The department has facilities for inpatients and out patients, Operation Theater with high tech equipment. A seminar room is provided with CCTV from O.T. for live relay of surgical procedures and two-way interaction. Dept. of Periodontology The department is provided with 45 dental chairs and units and is also facilitated with O.T. for minor surgical work and has one special clinic. The department is provided with 15 cavitrons (Ultrasonic scaling units). Dept. of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics The department has 48 dental chairs and units, and two dental Radiography machines and one R V G . A separate clinic for Endodontic surgery is also provided. Dept. of Prosthodontics, Crown & Bridge and Dental Materials The department is provided with 47 dental chairs and units and a high tech laboratory for ceramic and Nickel chrome and Niti work. Flexible dentures moulding facilities is also provided.Additional laboratories for the demonstration of dental material and prosthodontics work are available, each with a seating capacity for about 100 candidates. Separate laboratories for P.G. students, technicians, interns and U.G. students are provided. Dept. of Community Dentistry This department has 12 dental chairs. A large 'Dental Health Education museum' with various education models and charts, serves the patients to educate them even while the treatment is being given. Dept. of Orthodontics The department is provided with 34 dental chairs and units. Malocculsions are treated by both fixed and removable appliances. The facility for computerized cephalometric analysis is also available. Dept. of Oral Pathology, Oral and Dental Anatomy, Physiology & Histology The department is provided with facilities like, tissue preparation for histopathological examination. Research binocular microscopes with dark field and fluorescence, phase contrast examination unit and CCTV is available for research and teaching purposes. JSS College of Pharmacy, MysoreLaboratories The college has well equipped laboratories so that students can understand effectively, what they have learnt in the classrooms. Experiments are designed so that the basic concepts are well understood by the students. Advanced experiments in the laboratories, help the students to get an insight into the new frontiers of pharmacy and allied sciences. Computer laboratory The computer laboratory of the college is well equipped with the latest computers (cyrix-II and pentiums) . It has ten computers with CD ROM drives and inkjet printers. The laboratory is exclusively used by the I B.Pharm students for their computer learning. The ratio of computers to students is 1:2. The staff and PG students also use the facilities for their academic work like thesis and projects. Some in-house programmes are also being developed for the benefit of students and staff. Equipments and instruments The college industrial Pharmacy lab has various equipments used in the pharmaceutical industries at different stages of production, quality control and packing. Tabletting machines, coating and polishing pans, Spray Drier, Bottle filling machines, Rotary tablet press, Colloid mill, Fluidised Bed Drier, Planetary Mixer, Kalweka multipurpose equipments and Quality Control instruments like Friability tester, Hardness Tester, Disintegration and Dissolution test apparatus, pH meters, UV-Visible spectrophotometer, H.P.L.C (schimadzu) with UV-Florescence detector, deep freezer (upto -200C), Stability Chambers are the important ones, apart from other modern and sophisticated machines and instruments to update the facilities. Research Laboratory The institution has well equipped research lab with equipments and Instruments like Shimadzu Gas Chromatography, Shimadzu FT-IR, Shimadzu HPLC, Shimadzu UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Electrolab six basket dissolution apparatus with Autosampler, Brooke field's Viscometer, Research centrifuge, Vibracell Sonicator, Electrolab Tap Density Tester, Shimadzu high sensitivity digital balance, Gel electrophoresis, computers etc. JSS College of Pharmacy, OotyThe College is having excellent labs with latest equipments to cater the needs of the students.
